Hey everyone, its Maxi Rodiguez, one of Argentina's midfielders. We have had an excellent time in South Africa so far, winning our first game against Nigeria 1-0. South Africa is definitely an excellent place to hold the World Cup, but I remember learning that in the 1990's apartheid, or a racial segregation against all non-whites, was in full effect here. When I finally got to South Africa, I was definitely expecting to see traces of that extremely devistating period in their national history, but, in fact there was almost no apparent signs of segregation in the country, which amazed me. Both black and whites were together with no apparent problems arising in the slightest. As many know, a man named Nelson Mandela became president of the country in 1994, he turned the countries racist beliefs around, and unified South Africa, making him the most influential leader in the countries history. It was amazing that even after he left office, the people did not revert to their old beliefs, and they were able to keep his vision of what the country could be alive.

I agree what Nelson Mandela did was inspiring he unifed South Africa after there sad Apartheid goverment. It is really great to see how much the south africans look up to him almost as a god. I think that if Nelson was never elected president there would still be apartheid he motavated everyone to join together even if they were diffrent colos. He is now a hollywood icon in the movie invictus which shows how rugby and him join south africa. I also want to say argentina is going to win the world cup and there next game is agianst south korea Jun 17 4:30am

ReplyDeleteNelson Mandela is truly one of the greatest people of our time. He inspired a whole country to change its old ways and succeeded. On another note I am really happy with Argentina's performance so far in the world cup winning against Nigeria in their first game. They are doing well considering all the draws there has been and all the scoreless games there has been so far. They have potential and the best player in soccer Lionel Messi is just heating up.
